Welcome to Stewartville — the second-largest city in Olmsted County and the first when it comes to friendliness!

A man standing in front of Stewartville City Hall, a stone building with a sign above the door, decorative exterior lights, and a metal railing on the stairs, under a clear blue sky.

Stewartville is home to hundreds of acres of parks, miles of scenic trails, year-round community festivities, an outstanding municipal water park, one of the finest libraries in Southeast Minnesota, a vibrant and welcoming Main Street, and a school system that is truly second to none.

Our business and industrial parks are home to world-class companies. With a prime location just off Interstate 90, U.S. Highway 63, and Minnesota Highway 30 — and an international airport less than one mile away — Stewartville is an ideal place to live, work, and do business. You can get here from anywhere.

So stop in for a visit — and stay for a lifetime. We look forward to seeing you. And please feel free to give me a call if I can be of any assistance.

Thanks for stopping by,

Mayor Jimmie-John King

Stewartville was founded in 1857 as a small prairie village and has grown into a vibrant, family-oriented community while maintaining its strong small-town roots.

In its early years, Stewartville consisted of three streets branching off Main Street — Lake, Center, and Church. During this period, the cornerstone of the community was the mill built along the banks of the river.

When the railroad came through town, Stewartville experienced significant growth and became a regional center for farming and industry. Lake Street soon emerged as the premier residential address. Known as “Silk Stocking Row,” it was home to many of the community’s doctors, lawyers, and entrepreneurs.
